Bienvenue,

The world has turned upside down and cast us adrift in the process, launching me and my partner clear across the ocean to futures unknown.  KC to Annecy chronicles the journey, inside and out, as we uproot from the American Midwest and resettle in the French Alps. 

Here you will find stories about moving and living abroad.  Perhaps our steps and missteps along the way might smooth the path for your own adventures.

As we travel in and around our new home, we are neither locals nor visitors, but something in between.  We are delighted to share our discoveries with you as we get to more deeply know this new place, new culture, new language, and new people.  KC to Annecy is a celebration of new experiences.

In particular, you will find an enduring curiosity for urban life.   As a lifelong lover and student of cities, I feel compelled to explore what my old home and new have in common, how they differ, and how these places shape the lives of the people who live in them.

For all its challenges, the physical part of our journey is the easy part.  Diving a little deeper,  KC to Annecy  includes personal reflections on the dreams, difficulties, and decisions that set us on our way.

We have also compiled some of our favorite photos, just because we are awed and humbled every day at the stunning beauty and diversity in the world around us.

If you are considering moving abroad, or maybe planning your next European adventure, or simply looking for a slice of life from somewhere new, we hope you find the resources here helpful.  If France is your home, you might enjoy revisiting old familiar places through a new and naïve perspective, or just laughing at the silly things foreigners do and say.
